Nordex said the higher output from the new version could increase energy yield between 4-6% compared to the 3MW machine. The announcement was made ahead of the Husum Wind 2015 trade show in Germany.
The turbine will be available at 134-metre or 164-metre hub heights on hybrid towers to further boost energy production.
Type certification for the 134-metre version is expected before the end of 2015, the company said. The 164-metre turbine should be certified in 2016. Production of both models is due to begin by the end of next year.
Nordex said the new turbine was aimed at its domestic German market and low-wind sites.
