The nacelle factory has a capacity of 400MW – enough to supply at least 60% of the components used by Gamesa to produce wind turbines in the country.
It will be located in the town of Camaçari in the north-eastern state of Bahía and is expected to create 100 jobs.
Late last year, Gamesa set up a subsidiary in Sao Paolo to serve the Mercosur region. It plans to use Brazil as the manufacturing and operating hub from which it will expand in neighbouring markets such as Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.
The company expects sales to jump by 50% in Central and South America between 2009 and 2013.
