In January, Gamesa was selected as "preferred bidder" in a tender to supply and install the 50MW Qatineh wind project. The wind farm is near the city of Homs on the northern shore of the Lake Qatineh.
Installation of the project was targeted for March. However, since then the country has been beset by civil unrest and anti-government protests.
Gamesa said negotiations had been postponed sine die. It would not comment on whether Syria’s domestic situation had played a part in the postponement.
In November 2009, Syria’s electricity ministry launched a prequalification process to select an independent power producer to build, own and operate a 50-100MW project for a period of 20-25 years.
