Acciona is planning to install versions of the AW3000, with a concrete and steel tower. The project will be located at Cedar County and be complete by 2012.
In addition to the $3 million, Acciona will add $16 million to fund the project.
The AW3000 was launched by Acciona in 2008. However, since then only one prototype turbine has ever been built. This is located in Barasoain, Spain near Acciona’s manufacturing facility.
Further turbines are set to be built in Spain.
According to reports, Acciona is planning to manufacture the turbine in Iowa. Production could be take place in the second half of 2012.
