Repower wins its biggest European deal to date

TURKEY: Repower has been handed a 148.28MW contract from renewables developer Akuo Energy SAS to build a wind farm in Turkey.

Repower 3XM 3.37MW turbines will be used on the Kirsehir project

The project, which will be Repower's biggest in Europe to date, will use its 3.XM 3.37MW turbines. It will be based in the Kirsehir province of Turkey to the east of Ankara.

The turbines are set to be delivered and commissioned in 2011. Additionally Repower has signed a 12-year maintenance deal with Akuo.

Repower CEO Per Hornung Pedersen indicated Repower would be looking to extend its operations in Turkey. He said: "Turkey is a wind market with huge potential experts are speaking of volumes of up to 20,000MW which has barely been tapped so far. Turbines with a generating capacity of almost 1,000MW are already in operation there."

According to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç's Market Status Report on wind power in Turkey, last year the country doubled its installed wind capacity year on year to reach 807MW at the end of 2009, adding 424MW to the existing 383MW.
