The first is the 3.4MW 3.4M104 with 104-metre rotor for IEC IB/IIA wind sites* while the second the 3.2MW 3.2M114 with 114-metre rotor destined for IEC IIIA locations.*
In early 2009, REpower built the two 3.XM prototypes. 3.4MW production is now being ramped up and in April the company won a major order for 44 3.4MW units for a project in Turkey, currently the company's largest onshore project.
According to Repower senior vice president research & development Peter Quell, market interest for this product is high. Quell adds: "A 3.2M114 prototype will be erected by mid 2011 and serves a different market segment. By providing rather detailed information already at this stage we do anticipate that our clients increasingly demand advanced product information for their project dimensioning."
Despite the 55.8-metre blades on the 3.2M114 turbine, Quell does not expect major road transport logistics problems to occur. He explains: "REpower together with its logistical partners continuously works towards finding new transportation solutions."
The first turbines are planned for installation at the end of this year. Quell finally remarks that his company was recently awarded an SDL Bonus certificate for the MM series with 2.05MW nominal power.
*IEC IB/IIA and IEC IIIA are wind classes (I, II, and III) with each representing a maximum wind speed range (I = highest). A, B, and C represent maximum allowable turbulence levels (A = highest).
