Nordex announced high demand for its turbines in the final quarter of 2021, allowing it to record healthy growth in both gigawatts and numbers of turbines sold in 2021 against the previous year.
The German turbine manufacturer’s order intake last year was 7.95GW, up 31.4% from 6.02GW in 2020. It sold 1,636 wind turbines in 2021, up 23% from the 1,331 units it sold the previous year.
The share of Delta4000 turbines amounted to 83% of capacity contracted for the full year, up from 81% in 2020. Nordex's N163/5.X – a model in the Delta platform – was today (18 January) unveiled as the gold medallist in the onshore 4.7MW-plus category of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç's Turbine of the Year awards.
Europe continued to dominate order intake, with 58% of capacity contracted over the year across 16 European countries — in line with the picture for the previous year.
Latin America accounted for 21% of order volume, with Australia achieving a 12% share thanks, in part, to the largest single order in Nordex’s history, last July, for the 923MW MacIntyre project. The US accounted for 9% of orders.
In the fourth quarter of 2021, Nordex received orders for 678 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 3.3GW, with more than half of sales (52%) coming from Europe, 27% from Latin America and 21% from the US. Delta4000 orders accounted for 88% of all Q4 orders.
The company management was upbeat about its future. “Provided the macro environment evolves as encouraging as expected, we continue to see good prospects for our products, which stand for carbon-free electricity production," said José Luis Blanco, chief executive of the Nordex Group.
The OEM has installed more than 37GW of wind energy capacity in over 40 markets. It has factories in Germany, Spain, Brazil, the United States, India and Mexico.
