VSMC wins Luchterduinen cable contract

NETHERLANDS: Visser and Smit Marine Contracting (VSMC) has been awarded the contract to install and bury a 25-kilometre export cable for the 129MW Luchterduinen offshore wind project.

VSMC's new Ndurance vessel will be used during installation.

The underwater cables installation company was awarded the contract by engineering contractor Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects.

VSMC will use its newly built Ndurance cable-laying vessel when it starts work on the project in September.

The planned 129MW site is owned by Dutch energy supplier Eneco and Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi.

Located 23 kilometres off the Netherlands' coast, the Luchterduinen project will use 43 Vestas V112-3.0MW turbines when it comes online in 2015. Van Oord's new Aeolas jack-up vessel will be used when turbine installation begins in July.

Earlier this year, VSMC was awarded the contract to lay the remaining cables at the 288MW DanTysk project in the German North Sea by developers Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München.

VSMC was also involved in laying 64 kilometres of cables at the 295MW Nordsee Ost site, also in the German North Sea.
