GERMANY: Visser and Smit Marine Contracting (VSMC) has been handed the EUR 90 million contract to supply cables to the 288MW Sandbank offshore project being jointly developed by Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München.

VSMC will begin work on the cables in August 2015

VSMC will supply, install and test the 76 infield cables for the project's 72 Siemens 4MW turbines and transition platforms.

Work on the cables will begin in August 2015 with an expected completion date the following summer.

Swiss firm ABB has been contracted by connection specialist Tennet to supply an AC power transmission link from the Sandbank site to the 864MW SylWin Alpha offshore HVDC converter station.

Sandbank is located beside the 288MW DanTysk site, also being developed by Vattenfall and Statdwerke München.

VSMC was handed the cable contract for DanTysk by the developers in February.
