E.on set to install meteorological mast at 665MW Rampion project

UK: A 665MW offshore wind farm in the English Channel came a step closer yesterday when developer E.on applied for permission to build a 110-metre metmast on the site of its proposed Rampion wind farm.

The Marine Management Organisation now has to grant permission for the mast, which will collect wind speed and direction data at a site 13km off the coast at Brighton where E.on proposes to build the project.

The proposed site is in shallow water close to the urban area of Brighton and Hove and with a possible landfall connection at the existing Shoreham power station.

E.on's regional renewables director Dave Rogers said that the inshore site meant that, given the go-ahead, the project could begin relatively quickly. The company was awarded the Rampion consent in January 2010.
