Dogger Bank has the potential to generate around 10% of the UK’s future projected electricity requirements and could become the largest offshore wind farm in the world.
Atkins project director John Foley said: "The metmasts will provide valuable information for characterising the long-term environmental conditions and wind resources that inform the economic viability of a wind project."
Forewind project manager Peter Geddes added: "The remote location, harsh environment and testing economic climate present some complex engineering challenges that we are confident Atkins has the expertise to address."
Atkins is currently working on six other wind-farm related metmast projects in UK waters including the Narec Demonstrator Project Monitoring Station and Rampion, just off the south coast of England.
