Gamesa to build offshore technology centre in Scotland

UK: Gamesa has unveiled proposals for a marine wind technology centre in Glasgow, Scotland.

The city has been identified as the preferred location for the facility, subject to final agreements on financing.

The company is also developing a memorandum of understanding with Scottish Enterprise, Dundee City Council and Forth Ports on a potential manufacturing, logistics and operations and maintenance base in Dundee.

Gamesa plans to invest over €50 million in the UK by 2014. It is planning to build a blade production plant and engage in offshore logistics from a number of UK ports.

Its offshore wind business headquarters will be in London.

Gamesa began talks with the Scottish government about sites for a manufacturing plant in September.
