E.ON orders prototype Gamesa offshore turbine

UNITED STATES: Gamesa has received an order from E.ON for the manufacturer's new offshore wind turbine, the G11X-5.0MW.

Gamesa's G10X 4.5MW turbine will provide the platform for the company's 5MW offshore turbine

The manufacturer is developing the turbine with Northrup Grumman Shipbuilding and plans to test the platform in the fourth quarter of 2012, with the turbine ready in 2013.

As part of the deal, Gamesa will supply E.ON with a prototype turbine in 2012. Gamesa did not reveal where the turbine would be installed.

The agreement also includes the installation of one or two Gamesa G128-4.5 MW wind turbines for an E.ON site in Europe, and G9X-2.0MW turbines for a 30MW wind farm in Alcamo, Sicily.

Gamesa and Northrop Grumman have based their offshore wind turbine development program at Chesapeake, Virginia.
