Norwegian offshore wind specialists Vårgrønn and Danish renewables developer European Energy plan to target offshore wind development in the Baltic Sea through a newly announced long-term partnership.
The pair will focus on building out offshore wind projects in waters nearest to Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. They believe more than 15GW of offshore wind capacity could be built off these three Baltic Sea states.
Vårgrønn and European Energy plan to target several upcoming offshore wind tenders planned by the Baltic states in the coming months, including two in Lithuania this spring and autumn, and in Estonia, which has a gigawatt-scale auction planned in late 2023.
European Energy already has a presence in the region, with a 16.69% market share of Lithuania’s 521MW of operational onshore wind capacity according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the data and research division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
Offshore wind is expected to grow in the Baltic Sea in the coming years, with countries bordering the sea targeting nearly 20GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
