Siemens Gamesa turbines destined for Baltica 2

Ørsted and PGE have chosen Siemens Gamesa as the turbine supplier for their 1.5GW Baltica 2 project. An agreement has been signed related to 107 turbines, each of which will provide 14MW.

Planned for a site 40km offshore in the Baltic Sea, the partners were awarded a CfD for Baltica 2 in April 2021. It is hoped to commission it by the end of 2027, after which Siemens Gamesa will also provide service and spare parts for five years.

Marc Becker, CEO of the offshore business in Siemens Gamesa, said the deal would “cement the foundations for a successful rollout of offshore wind power in Poland”.

Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of Management Board of PGE, said: “We are developing the biggest renewable energy project to date in Poland,” adding that by 2030, PGE was aiming to build about 2.5GW of generation capacity in the Baltic Sea.

After 2030, the Baltica 1 project would also join the group’s portfolio. The intention is to have at least 6.5GW of offshore wind capacity in place by 2040.
