German steelmaker Salzgitter has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with Spanish utility Iberdrola for the output of 114MW at the Baltic Eagle wind farm off the German Baltic Sea.
Salzgitter will use the output of the farm to make green hydrogen, as part of its Salcos project to produce “virtually carbon-neutral steel”.
Iberdrola expects to commission the 476MW farm at the end of 2024. Amazon has also secured some of the farm's output through a power purchase agreement (PPA).
Last year, Salzgitter signed a 15-year 50MW PPA with German utility EnBW for output at the He Dreiht farm, which is due online at the end of 2025.
