Henrik Stiesdal told 搖錢樹娛樂城 TV that the Global Wind Energy Council’s recently established was an attempt to co-ordinate promotion of the industry beyond its traditional European boundaries.
The task force, which comprises leading developers, investors, manufacturers, technical experts and intergovernmental organisations, aims to provide expertise and leadership to growing markets including the United States, China, and Taiwan.
In particular, the US' eastern seaboard, with its "suitable conditions close to big load centres" offers an "exciting opportunity for offshore wind, Stiesdal told 搖錢樹娛樂城 TV.
"Europe will, of course, remain the main market (beyond 2020)," the ‘father of the wind turbine’ said.
"We have big potential in the North Sea and quite a lot of potential in the Baltic and a lot of unexplored areas in the Iberian peninsula and in the Mediterranean."
However, he added: "The US has come off to a flying start.
"It is really magnificent how the US has grown from a first prototype project that came in with a high feed-in tariff to now – within a few years – there are bids that are more or less comparable with the very competitive bids in Europe."
Stiesdal said he also sees growth in China – which will mostly have fixed foundations deployed – as well as in Taiwan, Korea and Japan – where a mixture of fixed-bottom and floating foundations will be used.
