Goldwind sets new US turbine height record

UNITED STATES: Goldwind Americas has completed the installation of what it claims is now the tallest wind turbine in the US.

Goldwind 3MW(S) prototype, the US's tallest turbine, is now testing in Texas

The 3MW(S) prototype has been erected at the UL advanced wind turbine test facility at West Texas A&M University. It has a hub height of 130 metres and a tip height of 199.2 metres.

The prototype has a scalable rated capacity of up to 3.57MW and a rotor diameter of 136 metres.

The model was officially launched in China in October 2016 with the first prototype installed in Hebei province in January 2017.

This is the first prototype Goldwind has installed and tested outside China.

"The newest model in Goldwind’s portfolio of turbines continues to push the technology envelope and define what is possible in the wind industry," said Reinhard Sander, Goldwind Americas’ vice president of engineering and technology.

"This allows our customers to maximise project economics with a larger nameplate design at a great hub height, while benefiting from the scalability and adaptability of the 3MW-plus platform," he said.
