Siemens wins second Japanese order of 2016

JAPAN: Siemens has been awarded a 50MW supply contract from a new customer in Japan for a project on Hokkaido, Japan's northern island.

Siemens' 3.2MW turbine has won two orders from Japan in 2016

J-Wind Setana has placed an order with the German manufacturer to supply 16 3.2MW turbines to the 50MW Setana Ostato project near Setana in the west of Japan's northern island. 

The project is due to be completed in 2018, with the capacity capped at 50MW.

J-Wind Setana is a joint venture between local utilities Electric Power Development and Hokutaku.

Siemens Wind Power and Renewables CEO Thomas Richterich said the company's turbines were "well suited for the Japanese wind power market".

It is the second order Siemens has won in Japan in 2016. In April, Eurus Energy awarded the manufacturer a 41.6MW contract to supply the Yurihara project in the Akita prefeture in the north of mainland Japan. 

Siemens said it has installed 200MW of wind capacity in Japan since 1999.
