First Indian deal for Gamesa's G114

INDIA: Gamesa has been awarded two contracts totalling 184MW in India, the first deals for its G114 turbine in the country.

Gamesa has received the first orders for its G114-2MW turbine in India

Both contracts were awarded by unnamed customers. The first will see Gamesa install 50 G114 2MW turbines at a site in Andhra Pradesh, south-east India during 2016.

The second project comprises 42 G114 turbines at a site in Karnataka on India's west coast. Commissioning for the second project is expected by the end of the year.

All 92 turbines will be installed on 106-metre towers and are included in Gamesa's class S turbines, designed for India's low-wind climate.

In November 2014, Gamesa expanded its nacelle factory in Mamandur, near Chennai, south-east India to produce the G114 turbines.

The company also has a blade plant in Halol, Gujarat, and a repair centre in Red Hills, Chennai.

"India accounted for 28% of the company's sales volume [by MW] in the third quarter of 2015", said Gamesa India CEO Ramesh Kymal.
