Gamesa wins 194MW in India

INDIA: Gamesa has been handed six contract deals in India with a combined capacity of 194MW.

Gamesa will deliver 97 G97-2MW turbines to six projects across India

In total Gamesa will install 97 G97-2MW turbines across the six sites for "several customers". The projects will be located in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra all in northern India, and Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh in southeast India.

Two of the contracts also include a turnkey deal where Gamesa will be responsible for construction of the site and related infrastructure. Gamesa said it was handed the deal by "one of the country's leading power producers".

The two sites in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh will be 50MW and 108MW respectively. The 25-turbine project in Gujarat is expected online in July 2015, while the 54-turbine Madhya Pradesh development is due to be commissioned by February 2016.

Gamesa said it would install a "new turbine variant" of the G97 with a tower height of 104 metres. The manufacturer specifically designed the turbines for low wind speed sites in India.

In January, Indian independent power producer, Orange, ordered the new variant for a 50MW project in Maharashtra.

The remaining 18 G97 turbines will be installed at four sites in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Gamesa was unable to give further details about its customers or when the projects were due to be completed.
