ABB will supply onshore high-voltage substation and cables in Germany to help link the interconnector to the grid. The cable has been designed to carry extra wind power from Germany to Norway under the North Sea, and hydropower in the opposite direction.
Transmission network operator Tennet has made its final investment decision on the NordLink in February. The consortium building the link also includes investment bank KfW and Norwegian transmission operator Statnett.
Statnett said the link would increase power security, boost production of renewable power and stabilise the supply of electricity throughout the year.
Construction of the project is expected to finish in 2019, with commercial operations beginning in 2020.
