The equipment will also be used to help integrate power from the UK and German interconnectors in to Norway and is part of a project to strengthen the northern European power system, ABB said.

The two 420kV substations will be installed in Lyse and Fjotland in southern Norway.

Installed capacity at the end of 2015 stood at 819MW, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, with nothing new added during the year. Wind accounted for just over 1% of Norway's electricity production that year but the government is planning to install 3.5GW of wind capacity by 2020.

ABB is already supplying the substations for the interconnector between Norway and the UK and the with Germany.
