Acciona opens tower factory in Mexico

MEXICO: Acciona “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç has opened a concrete tower manufacturing plant near Monterrey, north-east Mexico.

Acciona's new factory will manufacture concrete towers

The plant in the state of Nuevo Leon will create 300 direct jobs and a further 1,500 indirect jobs in the area. It will produce towers for the Ventika and Ventika II projects with a combined capacity of 252MW.

The projects will use 84 Acciona AW116 3MW turbines, which the company will service for 15 years. The projects are due to be commissioned in 2016.

Blackstone subsidiary Fisterra Energy, Cemex and other investment firms are developing the Ventika complex. Financial close was reached in April 2014.

Acciona said the project will be the largest to date to use its concrete towers, which can allow for greater hub heights, in this case of 120 metres.
