Acciona to build 49.5MW Mexico project

MEXICO: Acciona has been handed a $111 million contract to design and build a 49.5MW wind project in Mexico for two private equity firms.

Acciona has contracts to build 300 MW of wind power capacity for clients in Mexico

The Ingenio project will be built using 33 Acciona AW77/1500 turbines for Actis and Comexhidro. It is the Spanish energy firm's second turnkey contract in Mexico.

Located on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in the south of the country, the project was developed by Acciona's Mexican subsidiary before being sold to the investment firms.

Acciona will also provide a 15 year operations and maintenance service to the site once it is completed, expected to be before the end of 2015.

London-headquarted Actis is no stranger to Latin American wind. Last year, it signed a deal with Mainstream Renewables to develop projects in Chile.

Actis said it was focused on developing a renewables portfolion in emerging markets as the natural resources in countries across Latin America are superior to Europe.
