Duke Energy picks Vestas for 110MW Texan project

UNITED STATES: Duke Energy has chosen Vestas turbines for the 110MW Los Vientos V project it is developing in Texas.

Vestas will install its 2MW turbines on the project

The power company has announced that it is planning to go ahead with construction of the project, which will feature 55 Vestas 2MW turbines.

Vestas refused to comment on the deal as it is not yet confirmed. "As soon as the project translates into a firm and unconditional order in accordance with Vestas' definition, Vestas will disclose a company announcement about this," it said in a statement.

Garland Power and Light, Greenville Electric Utility System and Bryan Texas Utilities have signed 25-year agreements to purchase the power produced by the project.

Duke said that it expects the project to be up and running in Starr County in the south of the state by the end of 2015.

Once completed, along with Los Vientos III and IV announced last year, this project will bring Duke Energy's total wind capacity to more than 2.1GW. Vestas turbines will also be installed on the Los Vientos III and IV developments.
