Turbine installation begins at Nordsee Ost

GERMANY: RWE Innogy has started to install turbines at the 295MW Nordsee Ost project in the German North Sea.

Turbine towers being loaded on to RWE's Victoria Mathias vessel

The company’s Victoria Mathias installation vessel was loaded with four towers, hubs and nacelles and left the Bremerhaven port last night. The project will use 48 Senvion 6.15MW turbines.

Sister vessel Friedrich Ernestine will help at the project by installing the 60-metre rotor blades.

The project's jacket foundations were completed in March and the transformer substation will start being installed in July 2014.

Cables at the Nordsee Ost project started being installed last summer. RWE says the project is "progressing according to the plan".

The German developer says it expects to connect all of the turbines to the grid by spring 2015.
