First turbines installed at Nordsee Ost

GERMANY: The first turbines at the 295MW Nordsee Ost project in the German North Sea have been installed.

The first of the 48 Senvion turbines have been installed at Nordsee Ost

The project is using 48 6.15MW Senvion turbines, which are being installed 35-kilometres north of Heligoland island.

Components for the site are being pre-assembled and stored at the CT1 base harbour in Bremerhaven.

Developer RWE Innogy is using its Victoria Mathias vessel to install the turbines at Nordsee Ost.

The project's inter-array cables were installed in June by German cable company Visser and Smit Marine Contracting and installation of the substation is due to begin this month.

Grid connection problems have delayed the project, which Senvion said was due to be completed by 2012, however, it is now expected to be fully commissioned by 2015.
