The centre, which will focus on fixed and floating turbines as well as hydroliens, will develop the technology and improve the manufacturing process. Alstom expects to employ around 60 employees in 2015 and up to 200 in 2020.
The center will be built near Nantes' Jules Verne technology research institute, which is active in offshore wind as well as other marine renewables.
Alstom is already building two factories at nearby St-Nazaire, producing nacelles and generators for its 6MW Haliade 150 turbine, which should come onstream in September.
The first five units are destined for the Deepwater Wind project in the United States. Alstom is also supplying 238 turbines to three offshore projects under development in France.
As for floating turbines, Glosten Associates selected the Haliade 150 for its PelaStar floating platform currently under construction in the UK.
