The exclusive deal covers the housing and deflectors for the nacelles of the turbines that will be produced if an EDF-led consortium wins at least one contract under the second French offshore tender.
Alstom has been looking for suppliers located in Lower Normandy in order to meet the criteria of the tender, which also require it to establish an industrial base in the area.
Whether EDF wins the contract to build the projects hangs in the balance, with a consortium led by GDF being recommended for the contracts by the French energy regulator CRE, according to French press reports.
The tender involves the installation of 1GW of wind turbines off the French coast: 500MW near Le Tréport, northern France, and 500MW near the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier, western France, by 2020. The deal with BFG would be void if EDF fails in its bid.
Alstom is constructing two plants in Saint-Nazaire in the west of France that will produce the nacelles and generators for the Haliade, which will be completed by the end of 2014. If EDF is awarded contracts under the tender, Alstom will build a further plant in Cherbourg in Lower Normandy.
