The firm will now be allowed to use turbines with up to 8MW capacity, with rotor diameter and hub height of up to 168 metres and 116 metres respectively, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency has ruled. The farm will now be made up of 55 turbines, rather than the previously planned 77.
Dong said it is still planning to use the Siemens 6MW turbine, but that "nothing has been made concrete". Significantly, if it chooses to go with a larger turbine, it would have to find a new supplier as Siemens does not produce one any larger.
An increase in the capacity of the turbines could also cause issues with Tennet, which is responsible for transmission. The company has allocated 332.1 MW for Gode 1 and has said that Dong might have to curtial output to make sure it does not exceed that limit.
There is also a change to the position of five of the turbines within the revised permit. Work on installing the turbines is required to start by 30 June 2016.
