Dong acquired the three North Sea projects from developer PNE Wind in August last year for €157 million and promptly tore up PNE's turbine supply contracts with Repower and Vestas.
Given Dong and Siemens' track record of working together on offshore projects — at the time of the retendering announcement last September, Dong had awarded Siemens orders for 3,071MW out of a total of 3,326MW of its projects with supply agreements in place — it was expected that Siemens would replace Vestas and Repower on the deal.
The two firms today confirmed that they had indeed signed a deal that will see the turbine manufacturer supply 154 of its 6MW machines for the developer's three Gode Wind projects. Installation of the first turbines is due to take place in 2015.
The framework agreement between the two dominant players in the European offshore wind industry follows last year's announcement that Dong will buy 300 Siemens 6MW turbines for its UK offshore wind pipeline. The first UK project to feature the Siemens 6MW machine will be Westermost Rough.
