Global Tech 1 platform sets sail

GERMANY: The Borwin beta converter platform with a capacity of 800MW has left the Nordic Yards quay at the port for Rostock, heading for its destination 125 kilometres from the German mainland in the North Sea.

It will form part of the Borwin 2 transmission link that will serve the 400MW Global Tech I offshore project, on which construction started in August 2012

The platform was contracted by a consortium made up of Siemens Energy and Italian company Prysmian Powerlink for transmission system operator Tennet.

The Veja Mate offshore project also has the right to use the link, but the project, developed by Bard, has stalled after failing to find an investor.
