BLG Logistics, which is responsible for the project, signed the contract with Eurogate and turbine-supplier Areva, that will initially run until April 2014.
Emanuel Schiffer, Eurogate chairman said: "Wilhelmshaven is ideally suited as a location for further project business as there are very few natural restrictions. The direct location on the open sea and the extensive areas are ideal for storing and assembling wind turbines."
The heavyweight individual components – the 56.5 metre rotor blades and hub – will be transported on barges by sea from Bremerhaven and Stade, where Areva has its production facilities, directly to the quayside in Wilhelmshaven.
The 115-tonne complete rotors are then assembled on site at the terminal, close to the quayside, loaded onto the installation vessel Vidar and installed on the wind farm.
BLG Logistics were responsible for the transport, handling and intermediate storage of the foundations.
