The contract is for 69 2MW turbines for the project, which will be located on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca. The order was placed by Renovalia subsidiary Desarrollos Eólicos Mexicanos de Oaxaca.
Additionally, Gamesa will supply operations and servicing for five years. There is an option to extend this agreement by another five years. Gamesa said it will deliver 10 turbines (20 MW) in 2013 and 128 MW in 2014.
The isthmus represents the narrowest piece of land separating the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean and has outstanding wind conditions.
However, it has also been one of the most controversial. Militant opposition in has caused the 396MW Marena Renovables project, one of the largest projects in Latin America, to be postponed.
In May, the project's turbine supplier Vestas said opposition groups were impeding access to the site. As a result, the project's lenders have agreed to delay forebearance agreement until 20 July, with the likelihood it could be extended further if certain milestones are hit.
Opposition to the project first came to light last year when members of the local indigenous Huave community forced the mayor to destroy a building permit he had signed with developer Marena.
