The 74MW project, owned by Enel Green Power (EGP), comprises 37 G80-2.0 MW wind turbines. It is located in the isthmus of Tehuantepec, an area with high wind resource and has a capacity factor of around 40%.
The project follows the operational 26MW Bii Nee Stipa wind farm, which was sold by Gamesa to Iberdrola in January 2011.
As wind power developer, Gamesa has developed, built and commissioned more than 100 MW in Mexico, and has another 70 MW at varying stages of development. The pipeline amounts 144 MW.
EGP is increasingly targeting wind opportunities in Brazil, Chile and Mexico as it seeks to break out of a declining domestic market. The move is part of the firm's strategy across all renewables sectors to target emerging markets, amid regulatory uncertainty and declining investment opportunities in its domestic market and other countries with mature wind industries.
