The project, located in Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in the La Ventosa region of Oaxaca of Mexico, was developed by Spain's Preneal and sold in 2012 to Japan's Mitsubishi and Dutch pension fund PGGM.
Yesterday, the journalists, together with one protestor from the indigenous Ikoot community, Eleazar Infante, were captured by "gunmen" during a visit to the site to report on the debacle, according to a statement from Oaxaca's Indigenous Peoples' Assembly.
The group was detained and "intimated" before release over three hours later, said the statement.
The Ikoots maintain that the local mayor, Francisco Valle, authorised the project and offered cheap land leases in 2004 without their due consent. They accuse him of being behind the kidnapping and a chain of previous aggressions against protestors.
Mitsubishi maintains "the greater part of citizens support this project". The wind farm uses 3MW Vestas turbines.
