Gestamp expects to start production before the end of 2010 and to ramp up to an annual capacity of 450 towers. Currently, the company claims to manufacture 1700 towers annually.
A portside site in the northeast of the country has been chosen for the factory. Gestamp Wind Steel did not respond to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç’s request to identify the location.
In a statement, the company emphasises the site will facilitate exports to Rumania, Bulgaria and Greece, all three markets "experiencing strong wind development". At the same time, the Turkish market is braced for new regulation, currently being processed, to clear a logjam of tens of gigawatts of wind development applications.
The factory announcement comes on the heels of licences awarded to Gestamp Renewables to develop 115 MW in Brazil, as part of that country’s recent round of wind development concessions.
