The deal, which has been signed with wind developer Exergy Development Group, will see GE take a majority share in the Idaho Wind Partners projects. Exergy will own a minority interest, along with manager and operator Reunion Power.
The wind farms will be equipped with 122 1.5MW GE turbines while the power will be sold to the Idaho Power Company under a 20-year deal.
Construction of the wind farms started last month with completion expected by the end of the year. The projects are located near Hagerman and Burley.
GE has around $4billion-worth of wind farm assets. Earlier this year, it made its first foray into the Canadian market with the purchase of the Dokie Wind Project in British Columbia.
The purchase marks the first investment in Canadian wind power for GE's financial services arm, which has a renewable energy portfolio worth US$4 billion that it expects to expand to US$6 billion by the end of 2010.
GE has also signed a partnership deal with the Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (LEEDC)) to develop a 20MW offshore wind farm on the lake.
