Taiwan government looks offshore for wind energy future

TAIWAN: Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs is planning to launch a range of policies and incentives to promote to development of offshore wind farms, according to reports.

Taiwan Strait: ripe for offshore development

The department's deputy minister Huang Chung-chiou said offshore wind generation should be made a "top priority" and added the Taiwan Strait contained a number of potential locations for projects. He cited Denmark, the UK and Holland's offshore projects as positive examples.

According to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç's latest Windicator, Taiwan almost doubled its wind power last year by adding 212MW to take its total to 436MW.

Earlier this month German turbine builder Enercon won a new order from Taiwan Power Company for three wind projects in Taiwan.

According to Enercon's in-house magazine Windblatt, the company installing six 900kW turbines and 12 2.3MW turbines with partner Chung-Hsin Electric & Machinery Manufacturing Corporation.
