Nordex wins 30MW Greek project

GREECE: Nordex has been handed a 30MW contract by a major European wind developer for a project in northern Greece.

The Nordex N90 2.5MW will be used in the Greek project

The deal is for 12 N90/2500 2.5MW turbines and includes a five-year maintenance contract. The project is expected to go online by mid-2011.

It is believed the buyer does not want to reveal itself due to concerns about the development of the project, which is at a pivotal stage.

Greece's wind capacity broke through the 1GW barrier last year. However, there is a feeling this could have been achieved a lot sooner as the country is rich in wind.

According to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç's Market Status Report on Greece, the country's progress on wind energy has been hindered by a variety of issues.

Problems are alleged to have included red tape, ‘inconsistent' regulations, local opposition, grid bottlenecks and a lack of political will to move projects forward.
