Vestas holds position as world's number one turbine manufacturer

DENMARK: Vestas has held its position as the world's number one manufacturer of wind turbines, according to research from Make Consulting.

However Vestas' position looks to be increasingly under threat. According to the figures for 2009 its market share has fallen from 19% in 2008 to just over 14%.

The Chinese manufacturers Sinovel and Goldwind have made a big impact, taking the third and fifth positions respectively. Sinovel's share has risen from 5% to 9% while Goldwind's has increased from 4% to just over 7%.

The biggest decline has come from Gamesa. The Spanish manufacturer has fallen from third to seventh place with 6% of the market. GE has held on to its second place in the rankings, taking more than 12% of the global market share.
