Vetrocom, a subsidiary of Swiss energy group Alpiq, is investing EUR 80 million to build a 50 MW wind farm near the Bulgarian city of Kazanlak. It will use 2.5 MW turbines from German manufacturer Fuhrländer. Site work is expected to begin in the spring, with the facility slated to be operational by the end of 2010. Vetrocom has been awarded a "first-class investor" certificate for the project by the Bulgarian government, which is given to companies making a minimum investment of BGN 70 million (EUR 36 million). This means it is eligible for administrative and financial assistance in developing the necessary project infrastructure.
