Second hand turbine supply deal in County Durham
A company supplying second-hand wind turbines to the UK market has completed its first deal in County Durham. TNEI Services, based in Newcastle, has supplied two 250 kW machines to pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline's site at Bishop Auckland. TNEI's latest venture is the result of a deal with Windbrokers of the Netherlands, which sells used wind turbines from repowering projects in Europe, where it can make good financial sense to exchange an old turbine for investment in a far bigger one. Under the deal, Windbrokers finds the turbines while TNEI holds the UK distribution rights and provides buyers with a turnkey operation -- from assessing the wind resource to installing and connecting the turbines to the grid. The turbines supplied by Windbrokers, which come mostly from German repowering program, are in the 225 kW to 1 MW range. The Dutch company sees the UK as potentially its biggest market.
