Enel Erelis buys five projects totalling 120 MW
French developer and owner-operator Enel Erelis, a subsidiary of Italy's Enel, recently bought five wind power projects totalling 120 MW in France from German developer Windkraft Nord (WKN). Located in the Loire-Atlantique, Deux-Sevres, Vendée and Eure-et-Loir départements, the projects are at various stages of development, with the first 18 MW due to start turning at Pannecé in the Loire-Atlantique late 2009. This is in addition to a development portfolio of 56 MW Enel Erelis bought from WKN in 2007. The new deal boosts Enel Erelis towards its goal of 500 MW of wind power in France by 2012. The company now has 8.1 MW in operation, 118 MW under construction, more than 250 MW in the permitting process and over 500 MW in development, following the recent purchase. For its part, WKN is still busy in France. "There is still a lot to do on the French market as we are working on various further projects in several regions of France," says CEO Martinus Scherweit.
