Fred Olsen 1848 wins DNV certification for floating offshore wind platform

Fred Olsen 1848 won DNV basic design certification for its Brunel floating wind platform, paving the way for its future commercialisation.

The floating wind division of Norwegian shipping form Fred Olsen said on Thursday (31 October) it had officially completed its basic design phase.

Fred Olsen 1848 unveiled its Brunel floating concept (below) in 2022.

The unique design of the rotor-nacelle assembly on the Brunel concept is supported by two inclined towers meeting at a distance below the nacelle interface.

Its substructure is a column-stabilised unit with three columns connected by submerged horizontal pontoons.

The structure will use single-point mooring through a turret in order to weather vane.

Fred Olsen 1848 claims the design is made for a modular approach "suitable for serial and automised production".

A spokesperson told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç the Brunel concept is now ready for "detail design and steel procurements" – the final design step before commercialisation.
