Floating wind specialist Fred Olsen 1848 has contracted engineering consultancy Ramboll to oversee the scope design for its Brunel floating platform, and mature the concept's technology.
Ramboll will help to design steel structures and mooring systems for Brunel, and provide input on logistics, transportation, installation, as well as operation and maintenance procedures.
The platform is due to be completed in the first half of 2024, though Fred Olsen 1848 will also carry out further designs for specific projects thereafter.
Norwegian shipping giant Fred Olsen set up Fred Olsen 1848 as a standalone company in November 2021.
It unveiled its Brunel concept – a tubular semi-submersible, column-stabilised unit with three columns connected by submerged horizontal pontoons – last May.
