RWE and infrastructure and mobility company Ferrovial are to partner on developing, building and operating floating offshore wind projects in Spanish waters.
To date, Ferrovial has submitted expressions of interest in four wind farms of 1,750MW total capacity, 11-30km off Lugo and Pontevedra in the north-west, Girona in the north-east and off Gran Canaria off the coast of Morocco.
Spain hosts a number of floating offshore wind demonstration projects, while the likes of Ørsted and BlueFloat Energy have set their sights on commercial-scale development.
The country aims to have up to 3GW of operational offshore wind capacity by 2030.
