Vestas’ 15MW offshore wind turbine nacelle ready for testing

Vestas has produced the first nacelle for its V236-15.0MW offshore wind turbine and is set to start testing.

The nacelle for Vestas’ V236-15.0MW turbine has a modular design featuring easier-to-transport main nacelle and side units

It built and will test the nacelle at its facility in Lindø in central Denmark.

The nacelle will undergo mechanical testing, strict control testing of its controlling software, and a physical rotation of the drivetrain.

It will then be shipped to the Østerild test site in the north of the country for installation and testing as part of a whole turbine. Installation is due to start in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The nacelle is the first manifestation of Vestas’ modular nacelle design, which is also used for V162-7.2MW and V172-7.2MW onshore turbines.

Vestas unveiled its V236-15.0MW turbine exclusively with “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç in February 2021.

The turbine’s blades are being manufactured in Nakskov in southern Denmark and are set to undergo testing at Fraunhofer IWES’s facility in Bremerhaven, Germany.
