Vestas named preferred supplier for 1.2GW Baltic Power offshore wind farm in Poland

Vestas has been chosen as the preferred turbine supplier for the 1.2GW Baltic Power project in the Baltic Sea, located 23km off the Polish coast, near Leba.

Vestas' V236-15.0 MW turbine has been earmarked for the Baltic One offshore wind farm

The company will supply 76 V236-15.0 MW turbines for the wind farm, which is being developed by a joint venture between Polish oil giant PKN Orlen and Canada's Northland Power. The joint venture secured a contract for difference (CfD) for the project last year, at a price of PLN 319.60/MWh (€70.88/MWh).

Mike Crawley, Northland’s president and CEO, said the turbine supply agreement "reflects an important milestone in the development process as the project works towards the start of construction in 2024".

"Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2026 and will strengthen the energy security of the Polish economy," added Daniel Obajtek, president of the PKN Orlen management board. "We want to use the knowledge and experience gained in the Baltic Power project to implement further investments in the Baltic Sea."
